Thank you for entering the 9th Annual Colchester 10k which will start at 10:30am on Sunday 14th May 2017 . We are looking forward to hosting our largest field in the 9 years that we have been running the event. with up to 950 registrations.
Important Changes
There are a number of changes this year that need to be noted by new and seasoned runners.
1. Chip Timing (Don’t bring your arms up to start/stop your Garmin when crossing the line)
Harwich Runners are providing chip timing services this year with chips attached to race numbers rather than shoes. We have been asked to ensure that you keep your arms away from your chest when crossing the start and finish lines to ensure an accurate read. See this document for an explanation.
2. Route Changes
The course was officially measured in March 2017. The opportunity was taken to make slight changes at the following locations. Marshals will be in place to give you directions.
- Berechurch Road Crossing 1 – Run to the left of the cycle gates, diagonally across the road and to the far tarmac track.
- Hooper Avenue Roundabout – The route no longer runs straight across the roundabout but follows the pedestrian path.
- Berechurch Road Crossing 2 – After crossing the road turn right along the tarmac path instead of the sharp left along the gravel track.
- Ypres Road / Circular Road South Crossing – When reaching the bottom of the Ypres road run diagonally across Circular Road South to the crossing point (instead of the sharp right along the pedestrian path)
- The route map can be found on our website
3. Layer Road Closure
The left hand side of Layer Road wll be closed on a “rolling closure” basis to maintain safety. Please note that opposing traffic will still be flowing normally to care should be taken to stay on the pavement or left hand side of the road.
4. Pacing Team
Running Colchester have kindly provided us with a Pacing Team at 5 minute intervals from 40 to 70 minutes. They will be obvious in their bright green vests. Please align yourself at the start of the race according to their position on Circular Road North.
5. Water Stations
Water will be provided at approx 4.5k and 7.5k. To help reduce littering we would appreciate if you could throw any waste into big bins approximately 200m past the water stations.
