1. Points to note on the Route
Marshals will be in place to give you directions.
- Berechurch Road Crossing 1 – Run to the left of the cycle gates, diagonally across the road and to the far tarmac track. Keep on the left track and not on the gravel path.
- Hooper Avenue Roundabout – The route follows the pedestrian path to the left and not straight across the roundabout.
- Berechurch Road Crossing 2 – After crossing the road turn right along the tarmac path.
- Ypres Road / Circular Road South Crossing – When reaching the bottom of the Ypres road run diagonally across Circular Road South to the crossing point. Marshals will guide you.
- The route map can be found on our website
2. Pacing Team
We have a fantastic Pacing Team at 5 minute intervals from 40 to 90 minutes. They will be obvious in their bright green vests. Please align yourself at the start of the race according to their position on Circular Road North.
3. Water Stations
Water will be provided at approx. 4.5k and 7.5k. To help reduce littering we would appreciate if you could throw any waste into big bins approximately 200m past the water stations. Kindly sponsored by local builders merchants Collier & Catchpole.
4. Visually Impaired Runners
We may have Visually Impaired (V.I.) runners competing. They will be tethered to another runner so please be considerate and give space to both where necessary.
Race Day Information
Colchester Foodbank – Please bring donations
We will be donating the proceeds from the 2023 Colchester10k to Colchester Foodbank and other charities. This year we are asking competitors and supporters to bring suitable food donations to the Foodbank collection point which will be situated close to the Registration Point in the Garrison Stadium. Please give generously to this most worthwhile cause.
Access for Runners and Spectators
Car parking for competitors is on Abbey Field BEHIND the old Arena Sports Club. (closest Post Code CO2 7SZ) The best way to approach is to turn right into Napier Road/Circular Rd North at the traffic lights from Mersea Road (B1025). Please arrive in good time. All other access roads will be closed at 10:20hrs. Marshals will be on hand to direct.
Competitor access to the Garrison Race Track will ONLY be from Abbey Field Gate adjacent to the car park.
Registration
Registration will take place from 08:30 until 10:00 at the Garrison running track. Please check your name on the boards to confirm your race day number.
Desks will be set up in NUMERICAL order and you will collect your race number, safety pins and foam sticker. There is always a queue so please arrive early.
Medical Information
On the rear of your race number is a medical information form in case of emergency. Please complete this before the race starts.
Timing Chips
Your timing chip is already attached to the rear of your race number. You will be given a small piece of foam at registration to stick over the chip. This is important as the chip may not register a time without it.

Please deposit your belongings at the designated bag drop in the gazebos located on the grass, near where you entered the track area. A clear plastic bag will be provided with a sticky label to help identify your items and keep them dry. You retain responsibility for your belongings, so please avoid leaving valuables..
Toilets
Toilets are always at a premium and we have ordered additional portaloos in addition to the standard facilities. There is always a pre-race queue so allow time before the race.
Starting Line
The starting line is on Circular Road North adjacent to the childrens playground. Access to Abbey Field is via the West gate of the track and announcements will be made over the track tannoy at about 10:15 to move onto Abbey Field if you have not already done so. Circular Road North will be closed from 10:20 to allow time to line up in your starting position. Please look for the Pacer placards and position yourself according to your expected time.
Front Runners Please Note: The starting position is approximately adjacent to the corner of the childrens playground.
