As a garrison town Colchester has a long history with our Armed Forces, and we lend support to our soldiers wherever we can. The ABF is one of the major beneficiaries from the Colchester10k.
Lifted directly from their website, The Soldiers’ Charity began as the Army Benevolent Fund in 1944. They are very proud of their 70 year history and are determined to make the most of the opportunities ahead.
Today, the conflicts may be different, but the pressures on soldiers remain. The Army is bearing the strain of the current conflicts. Hundreds of soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq with many more injured both mentally and physically.
They give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much, but for them, it’s just doing their job. In return, the Soldiers Charity provides financial assistance when there is real need.
